I have always crappie and bass fished with my family, but it wasn’t until I caught an 8 ½ pounder with my uncle that I was hooked. I was able to attend the 2012 Bassmaster Classic in Tulsa where I was amazed by the people and level of competition. Now I’m obsessed with bass fishing. So much so that I started a fishing team at my high school, the Gardendale Rockets. We compete against other high school teams all over the State of Alabama in the Alabama Student Angler Bass Fishing Association (ASABFA) as well as BASS and TBF events. I have a long way to go, but I hope to one day fish on that Bassmaster Classic stage. I have watched them face this disease and have been both heartbroken and inspired by their fight. I’m happy to say that thanks to early detection and the treatments available they have all won their battles. Genetics are not on my side and I may have to face my own battle someday.
